Jahkil Jackson is a 14-year old activist, entrepreneur, and best-selling author who has worked since he was 5 to spread blessing bags to homeless communities around the world.
Jahkil was born on September 7th, 2007 in the Chicago area and first felt passionate about supporting the homeless community when he was only 5 years old. When he assisted his aunt in distributing food bags to homeless men and women around the Chicago area, he realized how large and crucial of an issue homelessness truly was. This sparked Jahkil’s passion to help the homeless community and inspired him to take action.
His 5-year-old self initially asked his parents if he could give every homeless person a home, however, more reasonably, they compromised by creating blessing bags. These bags contained wipes, socks, deodorant, hand sanitizer, granola bars, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bottled water, and more basic necessities every person would need.
He and his family handed these bags out to homeless people on the streets of Chicago, but when he was only 8 years old, he created his own business called Project I Am. This business continued to create blessing bags and spread them to different organizations and companies that also supported homeless men and women around the world. As his business grew and his cause spread, he inspired and met President Obama, became a marvel superhero, and became a best-selling author. His business partners with Marvel, Nike, and other large companies to continue his work around the world, and currently, his organization has 1,000 volunteers, raised 275,000 dollars, and supported 60,000 homeless people globally.
Jahkil Jackson hopes to inspire other young individuals around the world to fight for any issue they feel passionate about. Recently, he came to St. Stephens and St. Agnes School and discussed the achievements and actions he took to become the activist, leader, and social entrepreneur he is today. Despite his age, Jahkil’s passion helped change many homeless men and women’s lives and his passion for spreading this cause has made a large impact on the world.
